Welcome
The Blacksburg Math Circle is a tuition-free enrichment program open to all students in grades 4-8 in Blacksburg and its vicinity who
are interested in mathematics.
The focus of the Blacksburg Math Circle is on showcasing the beauty of mathematics and its applications, improving students' problem
solving skills and getting them excited about mathematics they are learning.
The Blacksburg Math Circle meetings bring together students and mathematicians and graduate students in an informal setting to work on interesting problems
or topics in mathematics, not covered in a typical school curriculum.
Types of meetings:
-
problem-solving sessions (most of the meetings);
-
expository talks on various topics.
The topics we cover are as varied as symmetry, the pigeon-hole principle, combinatorics, divisibility, probability, invariants, graphs,
induction, plane geometry, and sequences.
