Getting to Charlottesville by plane

Charlottesville has a small airport (airport code: CHO), about 20 minutes north of the University along US Route 29. All of the major carriers fly into Charlottesville, though there are direct flights only from regional hubs (Philadelphia, LaGuardia, Washington Dulles, Chicago, Atlanta, and Charlotte). Charlottesville, Virginia (CHO) should not be confused with Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT). In order to reach the University Grounds or the hotel from the airport you can use Uber, Lyft or Yellow Cab (434-295-4131) which has a flat rate of $25.

Other viable, but much more distant options include Washington Dulles (IAD), which is a 2 hour drive, and Richmond (RIC) which is about an hour and a half away. There are no mass transit options for getting to the University from any of these, and taxi fares are in excess of $150.

Getting to Charlottesville by train

Amtrak currently has two daily trains (the Northeast Regional and the Crescent), and there is a third that runs every other day (the Cardinal) through Charlottesville. All of these trains link Charlottesville to Union Station in Washington, DC. The train station is roughly half a mile from the University and you can use the free trolley bus to go from the train station to the University Grounds.

Amtrak also partners with Greyhound to run several buses each day between DC and Charlottesville. These are listed with the trains when looking on Amtrak's website.
